    Abstract: The pressure distributions on the contact surface between annular indenters of three different inner radii and flat surfaces were measured experimentally by using a newly developed method, in which the contact pressure was found by measuring the change in surface roughness. On the basis of the experimental results an empirical formula was proposed which represents the contact pressure distribution between an annular rigid indenter of any inner diameter and a flat elastic surface.
