Abstract: The paper presents an analytical study of the response of a loaded hydraulic cylinder to step inputs. The inputs considered are typical of those encountered in on-off servos using closed center, three position valves. Cavity formation and pressure peaks are discussed and formulated. The effect of cylinder position on system natural frequency is evaluated.
