description abstractThe possibility of promoting out-of-plane elastic buckling in thin disk rotary forming and in ring rolling, by the application of load through forming tools applied over a small sectional element of the workpiece, is considered. For the onset of this particular form of failure in rotary forming, limits are established, and quantitative criteria are proposed for guiding expectations of its onset.
