description abstractEffects of pipe breaks on nozzle design have been considered in this paper. Simple methods have been used for estimating the maximum possible pipe whip loads for design of nozzles and other components. The required minimum thickness for nozzles has been established to account for pipe whip loads in the design. For typical nozzle and pipe materials, this thickness within reinforcement limit of nozzles should be approximately two and a half (2 1/2) times the attached pipe thickness.
