description abstractFriction and wear properties of the Ni-M-S alloy system were examined by changing the composition of M (Mo, Nb or Fe) and S, respectively. Sulfides or complex sulfides such as MoSx or FeNbx Sy formed during rubbing or annealing were found to be good materials as a friction modifier, and they were discussed relative to the transformation of non-stoichiometric into stoichiometric compound during abrading. The effect of adding Fe to the matrix was also investigated with the system, and it was found that the Fe especially improves the wear property, among others.
