description abstractThis paper presents the optimization of a bin or tank that does not require a cover. A worthwhile saving of plate material for a given volume can be made by giving an outward flare to the sides. Another advantage is that the increased width at the top permits greater heaping of dry materials like coal or gravel. There is also a decreased possibility of spillage.
