description abstractFriction and wear experiments on brasses with and without lead particles are presented and compared. Quantitative results are given for the dimensions of the wear tracks and of the subsurface layers. Differences in the behavior of the two alloys are treated in terms of deformation characteristics and microstructure and the role of a dispersion of lead particles on friction and wear is discussed.
