description abstractTo develop an anti-weldability test in metal forming, a strip-ironing type friction testing machine was devised to measure simultaneously normal and frictional forces acting on the die during ironing. It can estimate quantitatively the effects of virgin metal surfaces generated during the process and sliding distance on welding. A new method to assess the ability of lubricants to resist welding has been proposed.
