description abstractAn analytical and experimental investigation of a new continuous extrusion process (the “Conform Process”) is presented. The extruding force in this process is provided by frictional shear generated by a rotating wheel against which the workpiece is pressed. Expressions are derived for predicting the pressing force and driving power required to extrude continuously a workpiece of unlimited length under optimal conditions. The analysis is substantiated by experiments with satisfactory agreement.
