description abstractIt is shown that lateral pressure, axial force, and radial interference all may be treated by a uniform procedure, when a moderately narrow ring is shrunk onto a uniformly loaded thin-walled cylinder which may be made of a second material. The generalized problem is then solved for stresses and deformations in both cylinder and ring. The present solution, unlike previous solutions, takes into account the finite axial length of the ring.
