description abstractOne of the factors influencing the efficiency of modern electrostatic precipitators is the proper cleaning of dust-collecting plates, which is usually done by a periodic rapping. The paper analyzes the response of a precipitator plate to an in-plane hammer blow. A simplified one-dimensional model is considered here and the response spectra to a square pulse load of different intensity and duration are found. The results indicate that different design parameters, depending on the rap impulse level, will control the frequency spectrum of the response. The frequency spectrum is considered to play an important role in dust dislodgment mechanism.
