description abstractIn a two-stage gear train, the two meshing stiffnesses acting on the intermediate shaft produce parametric vibrations. Equations to find the principal and secondary regions of instability are given. Results showing the influence of the phase angle between both meshing stiffnesses are presented. An easy way to determine whether a certain operating condition lies in a stability or instability region is also suggested.
