description abstractA new service-life prediction and rating formula is presented for use in designing V-belt transmission drives. Capability of current V-belt fatigue formulas is extended to account for effect of cord stress range. The formula is derived from (a ) statistically designed and analyzed life tests, (b ) cord bending stress measurements, and (c ) Fourier series and finite element solutions for cord stress distribution.
