description abstractDynamic acceptance tests based upon forced vibration tests employing electromagnetic exciters are applied to a center-type lathe. The stability is assessed in terms of the coefficient of merit (c.o.m.), which is determined from the harmonic responses of the machine. The influence of the following on the harmonic responses, modes of vibration, and limit of stability of the machine have been determined: Position of excitation along the axis of the lathe; Weight of testpiece; Support of the workpiece with or without a center; and Variation of the thrust between the workpiece and the center.
