description abstractThe effects of interaction with surrounding liquid on the dynamic behavior of a row of circular cylinders are studied analytically. First the hydrodynamic forces associated with cylinder motions are obtained using the potential flow theory. Then a method of solution is presented for free and forced vibrations of a row of cylinders. The results of this study have important application in the modeling of crossflow-induced vibration of heat-exchanger tubes.
