description abstract | A microbial process for the degradation of sulfamethazine (SMN) was studied. The activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant was used to degrade SMN under controlled conditions. Results show that the aerobic condition was favored for the removal of SMN and the removal process was characterized by rapid adsorption on activated sludge and subsequent slow biodegradation. Nearly complete removal of SMN ( | |
