| description abstract | A comprehensive analysis is made of the dynamic response of vertically excited circular ring foundations with mass that are supported at the surface of a homogeneous, linear halfspace. The harmonic response of such foundations is evaluated over wide ranges of the parameters involved, and it is shown that both the harmonic and transient responses may, over a wide range of conditions, be computed with good accuracy by considering the foundation‐soil system to respond as a single‐degree‐of‐freedom system. Plots are included from which the natural frequency and damping of the equivalent simple oscillator may be determined readily. | |
