Abstract: In order to study the influence of nitrogen oxides in tunnel environment on tunnel ventilation, according to the tunnel ventilation environment standards of different countries, taken Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge subsea tunnel engineering for instance, considering the influence of vehicle type, vehicle weight, altitude and vehicle age, the required ventilation volume for diluting nitric oxides was calculated based on the relevant standards and calculation formula provided by PIARC. The calculated value was compared with the required ventilation volume for carbon monoxide and smog. The research result indicates that (1) the proportion of nitrogen oxides transformed into nitrogen dioxide influences the required ventilation volume remarkably; (2) compared with the required ventilation volume for diluting carbon monoxide and smog, the required ventilation volume for diluting nitrogen oxides is the controlling value.
