description abstractTaken drivers’ fixation point movement characteristics in urban tunnel as research object, 16 times effective driving test were carried out with 4 drivers by using eye tracker system to obtain the universal pattern of fixation point distribution. According to the psychological concept of the visual lobe, the visual lobe was measured by the median successful saccade size in 2D visual search, and the legibility model of urban tunnel signs based on the visual lobe was established. When the target object is in the range of the visual lobe from the elliptic border of fixation point distribution, the target object is easy to be cognized, otherwise it is difficult to be cognized. Then the model was used to evaluate the safety of traffic signs, and the improving measures were suggested for reference.
