Abstract: Aimed at dealing with disequilibrium problems of district transport capacity, a new and practical approach for evaluating transit network and its capacity was proposed by analyzing the matching degree between the capacity and trip intensity. The studied district was divided into several zones first, and this district’s transit network capacity and transit trip intensity were described as two matrixes respectively with their values in each zone as elements. Then by calculating the value of each element and developing a model to analyze the matching degrees between corresponding elements of two matrixes, the relationship between each zone’s transit supply and demand was evaluated. By doing so, whether transit network design and transport assignment are practical was evaluated and further described by evaluation chart. With certain transit resources, this evaluation method can be used as theoretical base and project approach for equably distributing transport capacity. Its validity and usefulness has been proved in a research which evaluates and optimizes transit network in the old district of Guangzhou City in China.
