Abstract: To understand profoundly the structural performance of tubular core slabs inside which GBF high-strength thin-wall pipes (GBF is abbreviation of “high-strength”, “thin-wall” and “composite” in Chinese) are placed, the problem of whether the GBF high-strength thin-walled pipes inside this structure participate in the structural behavior is studied. The first experiment was done to measure the bearing capacity of the head-on cross section of the tubular core slabs. Then, the carrying capacity of the head-on cross section was theoretically analyzed more precisely according to the force condition of the thin-walled pipes, and the calculation method for the bearing capacity of the head-on cross section was deduced considering the function of the pipes. The experimental and theoretical studies showed that when the height of the concrete compressive region satisfies a certain condition, the GBF high-strength thin-walled pipes play a role in the structural behavior so that the bearing capacity of the head-on cross section of the structure is improved to a certain degree in the ultimate status of the bearing capacity. Meanwhile, accurate calculation of the bearing capacity for this kind of core slab should be considered by using two different conditions according to the stress status of the section. This paper showed the inappropriateness of considering the GBF high-strength thin-walled pipes as a pore-forming internal mold. The influence of the pipes on the ultimate structure bearing capacity should be considered appropriately.
