description abstractTo back analyze the smear effect and well resistance of a ground that incorporates prefabricated vertical drains, a simple method based on the hyperbolic method previously reported and a simplified form of the consolidation solutions were developed. The method was applied to a well-documented case study. The result indicated that the mobilized discharge capacity of the drain obtained by using the theoretically possible ranges of some of main unknown factors considerably agreed with the measured result.
