    Abstract: Because of the difficulty of specifying optimal design parameters of rectangular sedimentation tanks using a forward numerical model, an inverse calculation model based on an optimization algorithm and a forward model were developed in this paper. Using this model, a numerical simulation of the sedimentation tank involving determination of the velocity field and the concentration distribution of the particles by the forward model was conducted.
