    Abstract: This article presents personal observations regarding some of the benefits to the public and some of the challenges faced when a professional engineer in services as a local elected official. This is not a scholarly paper. Rather, it is a series of personal observations of one engineer serving in a specific local elected role, with some conclusions drawn that may be of interest to other engineers who may consider serving the public in political office.
