| description abstract | In this interview with an engineer who has opted for a career at a smaller firm, attention is given to the various advantages that such a setting offers. After exploring the issues that led to a career switch from a large firm, the engineer describes the stimulation she found at her new employer. She notes that since smaller firms often find it difficult to compete in the area of employee benefits, they offer employees an opportunity to acquire a broad range of experience. The issue of striking a balance between work and family is discussed, and recommendations are made for recruiting and retaining junior and midlevel engineers. | |
