description abstract | Those who have been active in ASCE's efforts to promote diversity in the civil engineering profession set forth their views on the problems as well as the opportunities now in prospect. The benefits that can be conferred to society by helping each person reach his or her full potential are a common theme. Brief descriptions of contributions made by people who because of their background were not part of the engineering mainstream are included. Finally, some statements on diversity by people eminent in fields other than civil engineering are offered for consideration. | |
