Abstract: This article examines the problem of an isotropic elastic half‐space region that is reinforced with a rigid disc‐shape inhomogeneity and subjected to a uniform surface load of finite extent. The analysis of the axisymmetric problem is reduced to the solution of a set of integral equations that are solved numerically to obtain results of practical importance, particularly to geomechanics.
