description abstractThis article reports a variational solution and its spreadsheet calculation procedure for the analysis of laterally loaded piles in a soil with stiffness increasing with depth. The aim of the paper is to provide solutions that can be used simply with recourse only to spreadsheet calculation to solve the displacement and bending moment of laterally loaded piles, so that they can be easily applied in practice as an alternative approach to analyze the response of laterally loaded piles.
