Abstract: A fluidized bed reactor (FBR) for the removal of iron from acid mine drainage (AMD) was evaluated as part of a prototype multistage system, which included a bioreactor to oxidize ferrous iron, an FBR for the precipitation of ferric iron as a coating on media, and a carbonate bed (CB) for pH control. In the integrated system, a 99% iron removal efficiency was achieved, with effluent iron concentration remaining <3 mg L
