Abstract: Based on the monitoring and analysis of an existing house, additional evidence is brought forth on the major impact of people's behavior on the energy performance of a house. The following items are discussed: (1) The impact of renovations and people's behavior on the history of energy performance of a house; and (2) the contribution of major electric appliances on the total electricity consumption. Finally, the paper recommends the installation of energy monitoring and management systems in houses to continuously record the energy performance of the whole house and of the major end-uses, to increase the awareness of energy performance, and to provide helpful information to the house's owners for improving its performance.
