Abstract: Professionalism can be viewed from the standpoint of several definitional terms or criteria. Included in the definition of professionalism are the terms methods, status, standards, and character. Each term forms a stepwise progression towards a state of both becoming and being a professional. The terms are explored as they relate to this progression, until a culmination is found in the internal qualities inherent in one who is considered a “true professional.”
