    Abstract: Bench scale and pilot plant studies were conducted using anoxic anaerobic and aerobic reactor sequence for enhanced biological phosphorus removal. The influent quality and operational characteristics such as return sludge, food-to-microorganism (F/M) ratio, and mean cell residence time varied greatly in these studies. The data collected over a 10-year period for phosphorus removal was analyzed with respect to many parameters.
