Abstract: Building information modeling (BIM) improves the communication of stakeholders, reduces conflicts, and minimizes rework throughout the project life cycle. This paper addresses fragmentation due to inefficient information management between the numerous stakeholders involved in the workflow of steel structure projects, especially in developing countries such as Egypt. This research proposes an integrated workflow for adopting BIM in steel structure projects to enhance performance and ensure success. First, an exhaustive review of the literature was done. Next, an extensive search of BIM tools was carried out to identify the most effective BIM software that can be employed during each process of the steel structure project. Then, information was gathered through questionnaire surveys and two rounds of in-depth interviews with practitioners in the steel construction sector in Egypt to create an intensive practical workflow for implementing BIM at each stage of steel structure projects. Lastly, a case study was reviewed to verify the proposed workflow. The proposed workflow could benefit steel construction firms by offering them guidelines for improving performance and implementing BIM to its maximum.
