description abstract | Bio-based cold patching asphalt mixture shows promising properties in pothole reparation and provides an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional paving materials. However, in-depth studies and the reliable formulation of bio-based cold patching asphalt mixture are still absent. As a case study, we proposed the formulation of the specific bio-based cold patching asphalt mixture based on the viscosity measurement, passing quality percentages and Marshall stability. Performance comparison tests demonstrated that the compaction strength of bio-based cold patching material was significantly higher than that of petroleum-based cold patching material. A generalized procedure for the selection and dosage of different components, and the characterization of bio-based cold patching asphalt mixture is tested and proven applicable. The strategy proposed based on the investigation in this work provides a guidance for the future development of other bio-based cold patching asphalt mixture. | |
