Risk Assessment of Deviations at the Gas Pressure Reduction StationSource: Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities:;2025:;Volume ( 039 ):;issue: 002::page 04025001-1DOI: 10.1061/JPCFEV.CFENG-4706Publisher: American Society of Civil Engineers
Abstract: This research identified hazards and assessed the risks of the gas pressure reduction station in Zahedan, Iran. HAZOP software was used to identify hazards and determine their probability and severity. The frequency and severity of hazards were investigated in this study based on the features of each component of the pressure reduction station. A total of 16 deviations in the gas pressure reduction station were investigated after 6 nodes were identified. The findings of the study can be utilized to improve the safety of pressure reduction stations and to identify deviations for the gas company’s safety experts. The oil and gas industry is the most important industry with potential concerns. Accidents involving the discharge of hazardous chemicals, fire, and explosions are among the most serious in the process industries. These accidents cause harmful consequences such as death, damage to process equipment, pollution, and production stops. For the first time in the Sistan and Baluchistan gas company, the deviations of gas pressure reduction stations were explored in this study. In recent years, the city of Zahedan has experienced a great deal of urban growth, and therefore locating gas pressure reduction stations in this city has been difficult. Therefore, it is very important to assess the risks of these stations due to their proximity to residential houses. Considering the important role of human error in the occurrence of accidents, the main application of this research is that the results of this assessment can be provided to the safety personnel of the gas company so that they can identify the most important risks and use the results in inspections and repairs to minimize accidents.
