Abstract: Windows play an important role in temperature regulation tasks in buildings, together with smart building plans according to the requirements. In this study, the energy consumption required for temperature regulation has been analyzed experimentally and numerically in a pilot room in the building with a simple/traditional window and an optical nanocomposite polymeric smart window with different geometries of the polymer plates. In addition, an equation has been developed according to the obtained data for estimating energy savings by using the reoriented cube geometry in the smart window. A smart monitoring/control system has been used for perform the temperature regulation tasks based on the purpose of the study. According to the results, the measured heating energy consumption for the intended location during the cold season for both windows was almost the same, and the reduction of cooling energy consumption on the warmest day for the smart window with reoriented cube geometry was about 23.1% compared with the simple window.
