Abstract: The storage stability of polyethylene (PE)-modified asphalt was investigated. The experimental results of this paper show that the storage stability of PE-modified asphalt is poor, and it is difficult to solve the compatibility problem between PE and base asphalt by adding stabilizer. In this paper, the study and application of the rubber plastic composite method to improve the compatibility of PE and base asphalt was investigated. The experimental result shows that styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer (SBS) could be melted with waste PE with a twin-screw extruder to prepare PE-SBS modifier. The PE-SBS modified asphalt prepared is stable in storage. The compatibility of PE and base asphalt is improved effectively by rubber plastic composite method. Infrared spectra show that PE-SBS is mainly formed by physical action.
