Factors Influencing the Coefficient of Restitution in Rockfall ImpactsSource: Natural Hazards Review:;2021:;Volume ( 022 ):;issue: 003::page 04021024-1DOI: 10.1061/(ASCE)NH.1527-6996.0000454Publisher: ASCE
Abstract: As an outcome of epigenetic reformation in rock slope, the rockfall hazard poses significant detriment to human activities and infrastructure. Among the related parameters including incidence velocity, slope materials, and incidence angles, the coefficient of restitution plays a vital role in controlling the falling trajectories. But the common measuring instrument in rockfall experiments like high-speed camera or the slope cushion with additional sensor cannot get the coefficient with a small enough error. Therefore, a new kind of test device was innovatively developed in this research and used in a rockfall experiment to directly monitor the trajectory parameters including the linear acceleration and angular acceleration data in real time and throughout whole process with high accuracy. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis was creatively used in this paper to comparatively analyze the different influences on factors including incidence velocity, slope lithology, and incidence angles. The final analysis reveals the law between the coefficient and the examined parameters, and can also provide reference for practical mitigation engineering.
