Abstract: To study dynamic changes in pavement skid resistance, this paper presents a new decay model. The new decay model is a grey model established based on three-dimensional (3D) texture using quadratic fitting, which just requires one small sample of data. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model is examined. Additionally, the model’s prediction effect and the influence of different factors on decay characteristics are further analysed. Results indicate that the new decay model can well describe the decay characteristics of the pavement skid resistance. In terms of macrotexture, the decay rate and the terminal value both change in a favorable direction as the abrasion resistance of aggregates increases. During the decay process, stone mastic asphalt (SMA) has a minimum decay rate and a relatively large terminal value. In terms of microtexture indicators, the decay characteristics are more complex. The reason may be that the microtexture is continuously regenerated under the abrasion action during the decay process. The decay rate of asphalt concrete (AC) is low, and the terminal values of the SMA and open-graded friction course (OGFC) are relatively high. The results of this study are helpful to deeply understand the decay characteristics of pavement skid resistance, which have a guiding significance for the establishment of a decay model of skid resistance using small samples.
