    Abstract: Four commonly used families of inversion techniques have been investigated. The accuracy and stability of the Chahine, Twomey?Phillips, Backus?Gilbert and non-linear regression techniques have been evaluated and compared. Practical and empirical rules for efficient use have been obtained.
