Abstract: The article summarizes an evaluation of the potential economic impacts of two levels of hail suppression technology on crop production in the United States in 1985 and 1995. Analyses are described which consider economic impacts at the individual farmer level as well as at the national level. Adoption patterns by agricultural regions are indicated for each of the two levels of hail suppression capability. Benefit/cost ratios for future hail suppression research and development indicate a high rate of return for development and adoption of the assumed high-level hail suppression technology. The low-level hail suppression technology is uneconomic.
