Abstract: Reanlysis of the 121 years of annual rainfall data at Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, given in a note by Markham (1974) does not support the conclusion of periodicities or quasi-periodicities in the data. The hypotheses that the data consists of statistically independent observations cannot be rejected at the 10% level based on tests of serial correlation, estimated spectrum and cumulative periodogram.
