Abstract: The original automatic cloud condensation nucleus counter developed by Radke and Hobbs has been improved by reducing the size and weight of the instrument and increasing the sampling rate. In comparison tests with four other counters, the improved automatic counter was found to give counts within ±50% of the mean of all five counters.
