Abstract: A previous study on the generation of equatorial subsurface countercurrents is revisited to clarify some details of the assumptions that are needed to derive the momentum budget. The opportunity is also used to put the study into the context of other previous studies that use quasigeostrophic theory to generalize the transformed Eulerian mean equations.
