Abstract: Numerical methods of calculating the pseudo-adiabatic characteristics of saturated air parcels are presented, based on the Rossby definition of the pseudo-equivalent potential temperature. With these methods it is then possible to perform routine automatic analysis of soundings. As examples, techniques for determining the lifted condensation level, the level of free convection, and the convective condensation level are presented.
