Abstract: An economical advection scheme with linear high-order accuracy is described. A splitting technique is not only used to solve the equations a barotropic model, but is used to split the two dimensional quasi-Lagrangian advection with one-dimensional cubic spline interpolation. The adjustment process is integrated with a forward?backward scheme. The application of this numerical method to a regional barotropic model shows that it can take full advantage of the splitting method by saving CPU time for the quasi-Lagrangian advection while maintaining high accuracy.
