Abstract: A well known method for the solution of the balance equation is analyzed. It is shown that the method is convergent, provided that under-relaxation is used and that the approximate solutions satisfy the ellipticity criteria of the equation. The technique on which the presented analysis is based can be utilized for other nonlinear iteration problems.
