Abstract: ?Easterly waves? in the tropical Atlantic have been found to be associated with a characteristic cloud pattern which has the appearance of an ?Inverted V.? Cloud bands are aligned approximately parallel to the lower tropospheric winds and change orientation along the wave axis.
