Abstract: A series of 35-mm. color slides and 16-mm. motion pictures of clouds were taken from a jet aircraft flying at about 30,000 ft. The aircraft flew from Honolulu to Papeete to Los Angeles and returned to Honolulu, twice crossing the equator. TIROS satellites IX and X were programed to take a maximum number of cloud pictures along the path of the aircraft when it was in flight. Corresponding pictures from the jet aircraft and TIROS are compared and related to the synoptic features at the surface and aloft. Cloud types, distribution, and organization over the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean are discussed.
