Abstract: The processes which resulted in the filling of a tropical cyclone over land have been investigated. The eddy fluxes of latent and sensible heat and the dissipation of kinetic energy at the earth's surface have been computed for a 3-day period. On the first two days the cyclone was over the ocean and on the third day it was over land. Hence it was possible to compare the rates of energy exchange at the surface after the character of the lower boundary had changed. Some significant differences in these rates of exchange were detected.
